Tips for getting the most out of your boudoir experience + How to prepare!

October 29, 2024

If this is a new experience for you, there are tons of ways to help the nerves become butterflies! Here are some tips to prepare for the day and what to expect <3

Tip 1 (and the most fun): GO SHOPPING! Sometimes, our clothes feel like old news. Whether it be lingerie that you got from your bff a while ago, or the every day outfits, it’s always fun to get something fresh! There are sooo many styles out there nowadays and they don’t need to be expensive. You can find some really decent pieces for a good price that will look amazing on you! I send out tons of store options (online and in person options) in my prep emails.

Tip 2: If you don’t normally do mindset work, start! It doesn’t have to be an elaborate 90 minute meditation situation… Just look at yourself in the mirror and say 1 nice thing you like about yourself. Looks, personality, values, whatever you can. We say soooo many negative things to ourselves and it leads to feeling really nervous about being open and vulnerable. Even if it feels ridiculous, absurd, and foolish, say SOMETHING nice about yourself. “Dang… those nails are killer!” “Ya know, you’re jeans are really fitting like a glove today!” You got this <3

Tip 3: Start drinking more water. Listen… this one is so hard for me, I hate the taste of water. Anyone else? Yeah, but! It’s so necessary and it’ll actually have you feeling pretty great for your session day if you do this.

Tip 4: When you read the menu, look at what products or collections make your heart flutter and then start a payment plan to get that exact collection! I know what it feels like to be like… man… this one comes with 30 images?! I will MAYBE like 3… I can also confidently tell you, you will love WAY more than you think you will. I schedule out far enough so any collection can fit comfortably into your weekly/bi-weekly/monthly budget and you can actually leave with what you truly want, not leave wishing you could’ve gotten more. Follow your heart and let yourself become the artwork! The investment may last 12 months,… it’s worth is lifelong <3

Tip 5: Fill out the questionnaire! You’re coming into this experience for a specific reason.. to feel a specific way. Filling out the questionnaire with more than a “yes.” or “no.” or “idk.” will be sooo helpful for me to make that vision happen for you. The more I know what you’re wanting out of this experience, the more I can tailor every piece of the day to perfectly fit. This confirms not only your vision, but you’re comfort level, any physical restrictions, your favorite music, all of it! When I say this experience is unique to each client, I mean down to every single detail. So help me get started by answering all those questions to their fullest. Your answers are safe with me.

Tip 6: Don’t do anything new to your physical appearance!! This one I cannot stress enough. When we book a session that’s focused on beauty, sometimes our first thought for prep goes to “ok I know I don’t usually wash my face, but I’m going to start now leading up to my shoot” or “I really don’t want tan lines, I’ll just get a spray/lotion tan this one time”. Let me be very clear. IF IT AINT BROKE, DON’T FIX IT. Stay to your normal routines in self care. If you need to do anything specific, I will prep you on it prior to your session and walk through whats needed. No new hair colors, no new lotions, let it lie. I say this because changing one tiny thing can have such unpredictable outcomes sometimes, and if you go for it, and that happens, now you have to deal with those negative outcomes during your shoot. A spray tan might look too dark, or orange. You might hate the new hair color. Your new face wash might make you break out or you might be allergic to a new product. Come into your session day as you are. That’s who I want to capture!

Tip 7: 7 is my lucky number, so I saved the best tip for this one. Are you ready?

KNOW. THAT. I’VE. GOT. YOU.

Did you hear me? Because I can yell it again if I need to (hehe no I won’t, I hate yelling) I’ve got you covered!! I understand this is a vulnerable, and sometimes nerve-wracking, experience. All you’re required to do is be yourself and have fun! I will walk you through every other step of the day in so much detail. You will never be left wondering if you’re “doing it right” or how the images look, or if you can or can’t take your shoes off inside the studio, or if you can request a different song. You just show up ready to have some epic girl time, and I will handle the rest 🙂

Tip 8: Know that there are zero expectations from me on your level of vulnerability. During hair and makeup, we chat. We talk about life, hardships, uphill battles, and also celebrations, best days, and gratitude! What you tell me about your journey, how deep we go into that convo, it’s all up to you. Just because you might be working through something does not mean you’re required to share if it doesn’t make you comfortable to do so. You tell me your vision and what emotions you want to feel when looking at your images, and I don’t need to know anything else. Whats said in my studio, stays there. It’s a safe space where the pressure doesn’t exist. Do with that what you will <3

Tip 9: Last and DEFINITELY not least (also my favorite tip) PAMPER YOURSELF GIRRRLLLL!!!!! Go get those nails done, get your roots touched up, get a fresh trim, make plans for after your ordering appointment and dress up and go out! Go shopping, get a massage, whatever you want to do that’s going to only help you love yourself more in these images, go do that! Have fun with the prep. Can’t decide which exact 3 outfits you want to wear out of the 8 choices laying on your bed?! BRING ALL OF THEM. We go through it together once you’re here. Whatever you do during this whole experience, make it fun.
